After picking everything to save it all from freezing I’m dealing with some crazy kitchen chaos. Our table is filled with pumpkins, watermelon, tomatoes, peppers and tiny cantaloupe. The kitchen counter also has tomatoes, onions and jars with seeds fermenting.
Slowly the chaos is calming day by day since I’m finding places for the store the bounty until I can do something with it.
I’ll share more as I process everything. Thank you all for stopping by.
Unfortunately it’s that time of year where the temperatures can swing from freezing to 70 degrees in a few hours. We have been working on the gardens picking anything that will freeze overnight.
Yesterday I was able to pick over 50 lbs of Roma and Round (cherry) tomatoes from the lower garden area. The pepper plants and marigolds were dug up and relocated to the pallet raised beds in hopes of extending the season for them.
Vegetables like carrots, turnips and peas we won’t do anything with just leaving them in the ground.
Monsoon 2022 has blessed us with lots of rain this year and we haven’t had to water in over 2 weeks now. Of course the bark, cardboard and straw has helped hold moisture in the soil.
We’ve harvested some tomatoes and a few hot peppers so far but as you can see from the pictures there lots of things growing (in the lower garden area).
The upper garden area still seems to be behind but is still doing well, we are hoping for a good harvest from up there before the weather changes.
Blessings to you all!
You can still plant crops now for a fall garden. Cool weather crops such as
Did you know that some crops can be grown in 60 days or before the weather turns cold such as-
Herbs can be grown in pots and taken inside during the winter. Having fresh herbs during the cold months are wonderful especially during the holidays.
If you don’t have a place to garden start with 1 or 2 pots and grow something. A sunny window is a great location.
Happy Fall Gardening!

While in the upper garden area I was able to capture a moth pollinating our cucumber plant. It doesn’t happen very often being able to get video of this process but I’m grateful. https://youtube.com/shorts/TdzARC4OAak?feature=share

Thank you for being here we appreciate all of you.
You should even if it’s a pot of herbs in your window. I’ve been trying to grow gardens for about 10 years and each year it’s been a struggle.
This year we have been blessed with lots of rain so far in Monsoon 2022. It’s been so dry here we truly needed the rain (even if it’s all coming at once 😊).
I’m sharing a video of our lower garden below to give you an ideas of how I’m doing things different this year. I added cardboard & bark and it has helped keep moisture in that growing area definitely a plus.
What’s cuter then momma and babies swimming in a puddle of rain water?
This is the first time the baby ducks played in a puddle but we have a small pool for them to play in as well.
Do you have a favorite treat you remember eating as a kid?
Does it bring back memories when you eat it now?
These kolaches do for me. Granted they aren’t exactly like the ones I had as a kid but close enough.
